We’re a team of global news enthusiasts, comprised of a main high school-aged team, a 4th-8th grade youth board, and teacher sponsors, in addition to national chapters run by driven high school students like us.

Meet 2023-2024 Administrative Team!

  • Sophia Craiutu

    CO-FOUNDER AND CO-PRESIDENT

My name is Sophia and I am a junior at Bloomington High School North. I was inspired to start Global Learners when I came to the realization that the majority of news outlets are incredibly polarized and provide less education on lesser-known topics from underrepresented countries/areas. Also, the majority of U.S. elementary and middle school curriculums are not focused on current events and providing students with a true global education. I am looking forward to diversifying the traditional school curriculum through this organization!

  • Iris Jones

    CO-FOUNDER AND CO-PRESIDENT

My name is Iris and I am currently a sophomore. I co-founded Global Learners because I saw a lack of knowledge in younger students about current events, as well as students having minimal interest in that topic due to a major lack of representation in the media. I’m excited to work with K-8th grade students in my community for this impactful mission.

  • Addison Rowe

    PUBLICITY DIRECTOR

My name is Addison Rowe and I am a freshman at Bloomington High School North. I had an initial interest in joining Global Learners because I believe that the organization holds such a relevance in the age of immense globalization and misinformation. The amount of news that is under-publicized is astonishing, and I believe that as high schoolers, we have the voice and power to push global news to a younger audience.

  • Yashvi Tailor

    SECRETARY

My name is Yashvi and I'm a freshman at Bloomington High School North. I decided to join Global Learners because I believe that will enable me to have a positive influence on numerous communities and students as well as change the society we live in. Since I am the secretary, I must have excellent communication skills. This role will help me further my objective of interacting with people and educating both myself and them.

  • Koel Harbaugh

    CO-K-8 OUTREACH DIRECTOR

My name is Koel and I am a junior at Bloomington High School South. I wanted to join Global Learners because I believe that the majority of the U.S. education standards/curriculums do not include current events as opposed to core subjects. I believe that it is crucial to today’s youth to know what is happening around us and to have a more clear and intricate view of the world as a whole.

  • Isha Harbaugh

    CO-K-8 OUTREACH DIRECTOR

I’m Isha and I’m an 11th grader at Bloomington High School South. I think Global Learners will be very good about spreading information and educating people about current events, and is also unique in its fully student-led manner.

  • Carla Demeter

    INTERNATONAL AMBASSADOR DIRECTOR

I’m Carla Demeter, and I am a freshman at Bloomington High School South. I joined Global Learners because I want to spread awareness in our local community about world events that aren’t shared or talked about in elementary and middle schools. I think that this is something important that we must all focus on in order to be more connected with others around the world and create global unity.

  • Lizy Sereda

    NATIONAL CHAPTER DIRECTOR

My name is Elizabeth (Lizy) and I am a junior at Bloomington High School North. I am incredibly proud to be a part of Global Learners, as the organization is making direct and visible impact for those in communities globally, through ambitious and forward-thinking students and ambassadors. I am looking forward to working with everyone and developing this mission.

THE

YOUTH BOARD

Youth Board members attend monthly (remote) meetings with us to give advice on what content and activities they would like to see as we visit schools. They also provide us with valuable information about their current curriculum and learning habits as a school/class.
